Deepening Our Faith is a new resource for faith formation which introduces the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The DVD has been produced to mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church of which the Compendium is a summary.

It has been produced by the Diocese of Broken Bay as a project of the Bishops Commission for Mission and Faith Formation. It is being distributed by the National Office for Evangelisation.

Presenters on Deepening Our Faith are Bishop David Walker (Bishop of Broken Bay), Bishop Michael Putney (Bishop of Townsville), Bishop Peter Comensoli (Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney) and Archbishop Mark Coleridge (Bishop of Brisbane). Biographical information is attached.There are five sections, each one dealing with a section of the Compendium:

  2. The Profession of Faith – Bishop Putney
  3. The Celebration of the Christian Mystery – Archbishop Coleridge
  4. Life in Christ – Bishop Comensoli
  5. Prayer – Bishop Walker
Deepening Our Faith can be used in conjunction with the Compendium by individuals and groups for study and reflection.

Biographical Information on presenters of Deepening Our Faith

Bishop (Emeritus) David Walker was the Bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay from September 1996 to November 2013. He has an abiding interest in adult faith formation and spirituality. His deep interest in spirituality led him to complete a Doctorate of Divinity degree. In 1969, with two other priests, the then Fr Walker founded the Catholic Correspondence Centre. The work of this institution continues now through the Broken Bay Institute. Bishop Walker is the Chairman of the Bishops Commission for Church Ministry and a member of the Bishops Commission for Health and Community Services of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC).

Late Bishop Michael Putney was ordained as an Auxiliary Bishop, Brisbane in July 1995. He was appointed as the Bishop of Townsville in January 2001. Ordained to the priesthood in 1969 he spent two years in full-time parish ministry before being invited to study in Rome. Fr Putney completed a Doctorate in Theology in 1985. With a long-term interest in ecumenism Bishop Putney wass a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and Chairman of the Bishops Commission for Evangelsiation (ACBC).

Archbishop Mark Coleridge was ordained as an Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne in 2002, appointed as the Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn in 2006 and the Archbishop of Brisbane in 2012. After Ordination in 1974 Fr Coleridge worked as an assistant priest in various Melbourne parishes before being invited to study Sacred Scripture in Rome. He completed a doctorate in Sacred Scripture in 1992. Archbishop Coleridge is also a member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and the Pontifical Council for Culture. He is the Chairman of the Bishops Commission for Liturgy and a member of the Bishops Commission for Doctrine and Morals (ACBC).

Bishop Peter Comensoli was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney in June 2011. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Wollongong in May 1992. He has served as an assistant priest, Administrator and the Chancellor of the Diocese. Bishop Comensoli has had an abiding interest in moral theology and in 2010 completed a PhD in theological ethics. Bishop Comensoli is a member of the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation (ACBC).
